Toni Morrison Collection

Chloe Wofford, whose pen name was Toni Morrison, was a internationally acclaimed author in the late 20th century. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 1993, Toni was granted the Nobel Prize for Literature. She was also a pioneering book editor at Random House in New York City. Toni Morrison was born on February 18, 1931 in Lorain. She spent her childhood in Lorain, Ohio, graduating from Lorain High School in 1949. Some photos in the collection are from visits to Lorain in the 1970s and 1980s. Photos of Lorain selected for display in the collection were also used in the 2019 documentary on Toni Morrison "The Pieces I Am". These photos are of items currently in the collections of the Lorain Public Library System. Toni Morrison contributed considerable input to this film.
