The Lorain Times-Herald newspaper building, Lorain, Ohio, c 1900-1910.

A photograph of the Lorain Times-Herald newspaper building at 614 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio.
The date the photograph was taken was likely before 1910, as the Lorain Times-Herald was located at 714 Broadway per its 1912 Lorain City Directory listing.
In the photograph, a large American flag flies from the roof of the two-story building. Awnings cover the windows of the second story. A balcony with a wrought iron fence is located on the front right of the second floor. The building may have been the previous location of a cigar or tobacco seller, as the words "Cigars Tobacco & Pipes" can be seen on the right front window of the main entrance of the building.
A typed card (not scanned) was included in the folio for this photograph in our Doane Collection files. The card reads as follows:
"LEATHER LUNGS" TOMMY WILLIAMS WOULD SHOUT ELECTIONS RETURNS FROM BALCONY. BULLETINS WERE PLACED IN WINDOWS. ELECTION RETURNS WERE PUBLISHED ABOUT 1 OR 2 AM*. PRICE 1 CENT EACH. NEWSBOYS BOUGHT PAPERS FOR 2 FOR 1 CENT.
The card is stamped "Rowley Collection".
The photographer is unknown; however, the photograph was likely taken by a photographer employed by the Lorain Times-Herald. There is writing on the back of the photograph such as"half-tone" which may indicate that this photograph was used for the newspaper.
