H.P. Nielsen Jewelers is the longest-standing retail business in the city of Lorain. Hans Peder Nielsen moved from Sweden in the late 19th century to Cleveland, Ohio, then relocated to Lorain, where the jeweler opened a store in 1877. The business was first located on North Broadway street, then relocated to 419 Broadway in 1903. Nielsen Jewelers relocated to its current location at 753 Broadway in 1958.

The man standing in front of the business is unknown, but may be a member of the Nielsen family. The label on the plastic cover of the photograph states "H.P. Nielsen Jewelry Store of North Broadway", which places the date of the photograph as sometime before 1903.
