An aerial view of the Erie Avenue Viaduct or Swing Bridge in downtown Lorain, Ohio. The bridge, now known as the Charles Berry Bascule bridge, was completed in 1936. It was renamed in 1988 to honor World War II veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor winner Charles Berry, a native of Lorain.
Visible in the photo are the Black River, the northern section of Broadway Avenue and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad tracks. Two tugboats are docked on the east side of the Black River, close to the bridge underpass.
The photographer is not known. The date of the photograph is marked on the reverse of the photograph as August 22, 1953.
